Eero Saarinen

Finnish-American — son of Eliel Saarinen, with whom he initially shared a practice. Gateway Arch (St. Louis, 1965, posthumous), TWA Flight Center (JFK, 1962), Dulles Airport main terminal (1962), Yale Ingalls Hockey Rink (1958), MIT Kresge Auditorium (1955).

Each project a unique structural-sculptural answer. Also a furniture designer of consequence — the Tulip chair, the Womb chair (Knoll).

Died at 51 of a brain tumour, mid-career; the Gateway Arch and Dulles were completed by his partners John Dinkeloo and Kevin Roche.
