Diébédo Francis Kéré

Born in Gando, Burkina Faso. The first child of his village to attend school, he later studied at TU Berlin and returned to design Gando Primary School (2001) — the project that put him on the map.

Lycée Schorge (Koudougou, 2016), the Léo Doctors' Housing, Serpentine Pavilion (London, 2017), Benin National Assembly (proposed). Kéré Architecture in Berlin works across Burkina Faso, Mali, Mozambique, and Togo.

Locally-fired clay bricks, raised tin roofs that vent heat, eucalyptus trusses. Buildings that climate, craft, and community can reproduce without imported expertise.
