Lawrence Halprin

American landscape architect whose Lovejoy Plaza (Portland, 1966), Ira Keller Fountain (Portland, 1970), Levi's Plaza (San Francisco), and the FDR Memorial (Washington DC, 1997) reframed the urban plaza as participatory public-arts space.

Halprin treated streetscape, water feature, and choreography as a single discipline — his wife Anna Halprin was a dance pioneer; he built improvisational scoring into urban-design workshops.
