Glenn Murcutt

A sole practitioner — Murcutt has no staff and no office larger than the dining-table workspace at his Sydney home. The Marie Short House (1975), the Magney House (1984), the Marika-Alderton House (Yirrkala, 1994), the Australian Islamic Centre (Newport, 2016).

"Touch the earth lightly" — corrugated iron, raised floors, deep verandahs, water tanks integrated as architectural objects. Buildings that read the local climate and the ground beneath them with anthropological seriousness.

Pritzker laureate 2002 — the only laureate so far who has practised entirely on his own.
