Career

Suggest edit
Born Frank Goldberg in Toronto, raised in Los Angeles. The Guggenheim Bilbao (1997) made his name a metonym for civic transformation through architecture ("the Bilbao effect"). Walt Disney Concert Hall (2003), Fondation Louis Vuitton (2014), Luma Arles (2021).

Style

Suggest edit
Gehry's titanium-and-glass curves are computer-generated descendants of the cardboard models he used to build by hand. His office's adoption of CATIA (originally aerospace CAD) made the curves buildable.

Suggest edit
Pritzker laureate 1989. Aged 90+, he remains in active practice.
