Mexican architect whose Casa Barragán (Mexico City, 1948) and the Cuadra San Cristóbal (1968) fused European modernist principles with the colour, courtyards, and water features of Mexican vernacular architecture.

Barragán treated colour as a primary material: hot pinks, ochres, and indigos painted onto monolithic concrete walls bordered by reflecting pools and sunlit corridors. He called his work "emotional architecture".
