Career

Sydney Opera House (1957–1973). The competition-winning shell-roof scheme remains the twentieth century's most recognisable single building. Utzon resigned in 1966 over budget conflicts with the New South Wales government and never returned to Australia.

Legacy

Pritzker laureate 2003. The Opera House is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2007). Utzon's Bagsværd Church near Copenhagen (1976) is widely regarded as a smaller masterpiece.
