Herzog & de Meuron

Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, both born in Basel in 1950, founded the firm in 1978. Tate Modern (London, 2000), Beijing National Stadium ("Bird's Nest", 2008), Allianz Arena (Munich, 2005), 1111 Lincoln Road (Miami Beach, 2010), Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg, 2017).

Material-first: the choice of skin (printed glass, etched copper, the steel mesh of the Bird's Nest) frames each project's identity. The structural logic varies; the precision of finish is constant.
