Engineering-led modernism. Every Foster building announces its structural logic in section — the suspended floors of HSBC, the gridshell roofs of the British Museum Great Court (2000), the diagrid of 30 St Mary Axe ("the Gherkin", 2003).

Pritzker laureate 1999. Created Baron Foster of Thames Bank in 1999.
